A Night in Their Shoes
Introduction
According to the United States National Holocaust Museum, upwards of 5,860,129 Jewish people died at the hands of the Third Reich within Nazi-occupied Europe, during World War Two. This firmly ensconces the Holocaust as one of the most egregious human rights violations in the 20th century.
As the event continues to fade further into the pages of history, it becomes more and more difficult to envision what life was really like for those who experienced life during this period. As we move into our examination of the novel, Night by Elie Wiesel, it is extremely important that we understand life during this perio. We may then recognize the hardship Elie and his family face as they are swept into one of the most brutal genocides in history.
